❝Lack of activity destroys the good condition of every human being, while movement and methodical physical exercise save it and preserve it.
Physical education is a part of a coordinated school health program. It is the component that addresses the student’s fundamental need for planned, sequential instruction that promotes lifelong physical activity and attitudes and behaviors that reduce health risks. Other components of a coordinated school health program include health education, nutrition services, health services, healthy school environment, counseling services, psychological and social services, health promotion for staff, and family and community involvement. A standards-based physical education program also provides an excellent opportunity to ensure that students develop positive social skills and learn to cooperate with others and accept responsibility for their own actions.
The ultimate goal of high-quality, standards-based physical education instruction is to prepare every student for a lifetime of physical activity, health, and well-being.
“Physical Fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body, it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity”
~ John F. Kennedy
