At the Kindergarten level, this means that students spend time developing social, language, physical and academic skills. DMES uses a bi-literate bilingual approach in order to meet all of these needs.

  • The DMES Kindergarten program consists of 2 levels:
  • Kindergarten 1 (KG1) and Kindergarten 2 (KG2).
  • Students in KG1 must be 4 years old by October 01 of the year of entry.
  • Students in KG2 must be 5 years old by October 01, of the year of entry.
  • Minimum age of students in KG1 is 3 years and 6 months while the maximum age is 4 years and 5 months
  • Minimum age of students in KG2 is 4 years and 6 months while the maximum age is 5 years and 5 months


How it Works


The daily schedule is divided into learning blocks. For example,

  • Welcome and Circle Time
  • Reading Time
  • Arabic and Islamic Education Time
  • Focused Literacy and Numeracy Time
  • Gross Motor Time
  • Active Learning Time
  • Closing Circle
  • Kindergartens operate daily, five days a week. The length of the school day is 5 hours, 30 minutes with school typically starting at 8:00 AM and ending at 01:30 PM each day.
  • Kindergartens in DMES follow the school calendar observed in Cycles 1, 2 and 3. The school year consists of 2 terms; each approximately 16 weeks.
  • Report Cards At the end of each school term, a report card is prepared for every student. Parents receive the report on the past term at the beginning of the new term and at the end of the year...

Approaches to Learning (1-4 scale)

Observable and measurable skills, attitudes, values and character traits important to the learning process for KG students;

Classified into: social, emotional, attitudinal, innovation and problem solving

Uses a four-point scale: 1 (high) – 4 (low)


Academic Performance (A-E scale)

Measurement against curriculum/subject-specific expectations for KG students

Uses five letter levels A (highest), B, C, D and E (lowest).
